How was he linked to her – 1^st Land purchase and then Job. Job cannot be as he is involved in it from beginning. That left him with Land. He pressurized his brain. Ohh Shit – he remembers no, Brij’s first hesitation came up with Land audit.

Next Morning:

“Adi.. It has been long our Audit team have been working on this Land Audit”

Adi hesitated “Yes. Yes sir. They are working”

“This long… I am going to fire this whole team” “No No sir… Sir actually they have done the Audit. Land is all clean Sir. We don’t need meeting”

“That I will decide Adi… Call the meeting today at 11 am” “But Sir today.. how”

“Do you know conference meeting”

“Ok Sir… Sure Sir… But sir” “Adi!!!” he disconnected

Adi called the meeting. He knew everything about Land Audit. He wanted to keep information to himself. With this Audit someone’s pain will be scratched. He looked at Geet. She was looking happy. Ok, he will not let this meetings detail be out in any case. Maan Sir will know that’s it. Why should it matter to Maan sir? He will know about Land and he will be fine.

Maan directly entered his cabin. He did not give even hidden smile that Geet was waiting for. Maybe any important project issue? She knows when he is busy he does not even open the blind. Well he was world class Businessman, she has to learn these things. He cannot always keep his focus only on her.

Conference Room:

Everyone was waiting for Maan “Yes Go ahead” he ordered

“Sir as per audit, the land is clean and it is transferred to Khurana Group without any issue”

“Fine. But as far I remember, this land has someone else’ name before it was transferred to Khurana Group. What’s that story”?

“Sir that does not matter”

“I am not asking your suggestion. Only answer to my questions” everyone was scared with his raised of voice; Adi in the cabin and other over the conference.

Outside:

Geet at first had ignored, but the way Maan walked inside the cabin, straight passed her, she felt uneasy.

“Why is this meeting going so late. I need to go and talk to Maan. Is anything disturbing him” her worry was only increasing

Conference Room:

They looked at each other’s’ face and then knowing they have to speak out.

“Sir basically that whole thing is related with someone’s life. More than land, it is someone’s life that have been disturbed” Maan’s hold on the pen he was holding increased. Looks like something is even serious than his imagination

“And sir, it’s about a girl’s life so we are hesitating more”

“Aise bhi kya baat hai” he murmured but Adi heard “Aisee he baat hai sir”

Audit Lead “Sir there is name of Dev Sharma in the land. It intermittently was transferred to his name” he paused

“Hmm go ahead, I am listening”

“Sir Dev Sharma got that land not by buying but by fraud. Later when family came to know about his fraud, they took it back and Dev Sharma was sent to jail”

They tried to finish it here “I want all detail, do you guys think I am fool to leave topic here. Please proceed with detail”

“Sir Dev Sharma, fooled a girl from HP to marry him when he came to know that the land will go to whoever marries the owner of the land”

“Marriage?” Maan said in disbelief. He could still not register it for Geet. This thought was out of his league.

“Yes Sir, he was already a married man and he fraud and tricked the girl to marry him and once married he got the land in his name”

Maan was numb and just listening “It all came out after 15 days, that the marriage and rituals all were fake, priest was fake, chanting was fake, everything was fake, even the vermillion was fake Holi color”

Maan gulped the whole glass of water, he needed to hold to hear it all “He must have touched the girl in that fake marriage process”

“Sir he did much beyond but that came out later. This came out, when his wife, Naintara came to know about his marriage, she warned him in front of whole village” He was then beaten up and sent to jail. His name was then removed from land.

“And that girl?”

“Strangely the girl was not broken by this man’s act. She had anger and she went all out to get him punished”

“Why heart was not broken?”

“What we have found is, she never loved that man”

“So it was arranged marriage? How could a family marry a girl without investigation?”

“Sir it was not arranged marriage, not love. This girl did not want to have arranged marriage as that would restrict her freedom. She wanted to spend her life in Bangalore and spend her life independently. She was called as most practical girl of HP. She did not believe in love. Marriage had to happen, family will force her into it she knew. Thus she made her own arrangement.”

“Still how this man?”

“This man befriended her after he somehow came to know about the land. He was bankrupt and this was the easiest way to get quick money. This Land you know sir, has big money involved”

No This Can’t be Geet. His heart cried to convince his mind, but his mind knew his heart was lying to him. Still he wanted to believe his heart. Must be someone else.

“But why did she agree.”

“Her practical nature. This man promised her exact life she wanted. He fooled her. They were in Bangalore alone and it was easy to fool her with no one trying to guide her. She had just passed out of college and joined the office.”

“She had clearly told him that love was not in her dictionary, she didn’t feel anything like that. She thought she was being smart.”  They paused to prepare for further info

“Then somehow she convinced her orthodox yet loving family to get married to him. This one created a fake family and all and marriage happened”

Maan’s head was now spinning. He felt out of control and his heart, it felt will come out of its place. He could feel his universe was upside down

“She married on her own will?” he murmured again to himself “Phir yeh sab kya hai mere saath. No No, it’s not her” his heart was still trying to hold its place.

“But her family and HP people supported her. They knew she had been cheated. They scolded her but supported. What was fault of her, she convinced them to marry him, they failed to investigate. They took blame on themselves and supported her”

Maan was now not in condition to think logically, he was cheated is all he could register. But worst was yet to come

“Sir but worst part of it that came forward. That is what broke her”

“Abb bhi kuch banki hai?” he questioned to himself but team thought it was for them

“Yes Sir”

“It was found after 2 months that she was pregnant. Everyone was shocked. She never loved him, she clarified that to everyone, she never wanted to go into that level of relation. This indifference of her toward him, provoked that man. He was charmed by her beauty. She wanted time to take relation to next level but gave in the name of marriage as the man claimed this was natural for husband wife. ”

They heard a glass breaking sound and paused. Maan had no expression on his face. He was cold and numb “Nothing happened, glass just broke. You guys carry on” His hand was bleeding which he kept under table.

“Woo ladki bechari” “Bechari?” he sarcastically laughed

“Haan sir, dhokha he dhokha hua uske saath. It was first time that she got emotional in life. She wanted to keep that child, it was hers. The villagers were completely against this decision. It would give bad name to HP. But their family seeing her condition could not deny her. They decided to let her keep the child Or they knew she will do something to herself. At last villagers supported her too.. Everyone actually loved her. Her brother decided to adopt the child after it was born. He wanted his sister to be free of all.”

“She used and had been using everyone those loved her or love her. So in return got cheated” he felt heartless towards her. He knew his brain was not thinking logically.

“No Sir, if you think what wrong has she done, Nothing. She was cheated herself and worst part is with a man she never ever loved and she let him trick her into the relation she never was ready for. But she broke after Dev’s wife, Naintara tricked her to get the child aborted. And that is when she completely went into depression. She was so attached to the child. Everyone slowly, for her accepted the child but it got aborted. The village still is looking forward for her to come out completely out of depression. Whole incident just made her go into depression more and more.”

“This is worst that can happen with any girl”

Maan was in no mood to give any brownie points to her.  His brain and mind none was working.

“Sir, Girls name is”

“GEET!!” he roared “Meeting over. Adi leave. I have other important work to take care”

Outside, Geet saw Adi coming out of meeting. She thought of going to talk to Maan. She got to get up when Maan came out of his cabin and he shouted “Adi to my cabin now”

Geet felt he was still disturbed. But why did he not give any look to her.

Adi ran and went to Maan’s cabin “Adi, I need to look into some project in Delhi. It’s much more urgent. You take care of office here, in my back.” And he got out of cabin. The way Maan came out of his cabin, hardness in his face and walking past her seat without a look, scared Geet.
